The purpose of the Commission is to order the repair of substandard structures to meet code specification, or in the alternative, to order removal of such substandard structures. This Commission also is tasked with hearing and acting on appeals of the Fire Code and Building Codes.
The Building and Standards Commission consist of five members and four alternate members who are qualified by experience and training to consider and pass upon matters pertaining to demolition of substandard buildings.
Appointed by the City Council. Appointment of members shall consist of one attorney, one engineer, one member at large selected from the building industry located within Texarkana, Texas, one building contractor, and one non-industry member at large selected from the citizens of Texarkana, Texas.
All regular and alternate members of the commission shall be residents or own and operate businesses within the City of Texarkana, Texas.
Term of Office
Each member shall be appointed for two years. Members may be reappointed for unlimited two year terms. Two unexcused absences by a member shall be grounds for removal from the commissions.
Four alternate members shall be appointed to serve in the absence of one or more regular members. The alternate members shall serve the same term.
